Krk and why you should visit it

Krk is often referred as an island, but it’s also easy to get there since it’s linked with 1430-meter long bridge with mainland. Besides this, it’s history, beautiful beaches and rich gastronomy will make you fall in love after your first visit. Krk was known in antics as a Golden island and, driving through Krk, you’ll be seeing thousand years of history. Everyone visiting Krk will surely find something to their likings.

Beach lovers will easily find a little spot for themselves. Long walkway along the sea is ideal to enjoy in late summer evenings. Rich gastronomy includes domestic lamb, homemade sheep cheese and prosciutto, a real treat to everyone looking for a new experience. Fresh fish and shellfish are commonly used in islands home cooking and special holidays can’t go without traditional homemade pasta – macaroons, gnocchi and surlice.

Island of Krk is a big museum of a noble Frankopan family, dating back to medieval era. Krk was one of the family’s strategic towns and still today Frankopan castle stands on Kamplin square. Near it is the residence of Frankopan family.

Little island of Kosljun is located between Krk and Punta. One of the oldest monasteries, over six centuries old, still stands on the island. Island also has two churches and a museum.

In almost any town on Krk you’ll find small, crooked streets with a story to each one of them.

Airport Rijeka is on Krk, near Omišalj.

If you wish to learn more about the way people used to live here and about etno culture, then visit the ethnographic and sacral museum. Another attraction to visit is the Biserujka cave, rich in stalagmites and stalactites. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch a glimpse of a bat or two.

If you’re feeling adventurous try the zipline, in Krk, stretching along a bay, over a beach, from one side to other.

In short, there’s a lot to see and do in Krk. Since it’s connected via bridge it’s easy to get here by car. Airport Rijeka is on Krk also so you can’t get any closer if you’re coming by airplane.
