Additional fees are possible when getting cash on ATMs that don’t belong to your bank. If you must choose between credit account, checking account or savings account always choose checking or savings account. If ATM machine prompts you to choose between “with conversion” or “without conversion” always choose “without conversion” option. As a rule, charge is always placed in local currency. If you choose “with conversion” ATM owner can apply their own exchange rate that can be different from the official bank rates.

Also, if you must choose to withdraw cash on fixed or variable exchange rate always choose variable since it’s closer to the actual rates that change daily. Fixed exchange rate doesn’t change and most often gives you less money than you should get if you choose variable rate.
